Sacha Kilgour is a New Zealand born singing and choral teacher. She completed her training at the Wellington Conservatorium of Music in Classical Voice (performance) and then at NZ Teacher Training College where she obtained a Diploma of Teaching (Performing Arts). From here, Sacha was accepted into the Singer/Actor/Dancer Music Theatre Program at The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney.
Her professional performance experience as a singer and actor, spans over serveral genres: opera, children's theatre, music theatre, cabaret, TV, film, radio and jazz. She has appeared on TVNZ's Showcase, Young Entertainers, Christmas in the Park and made it to the finals of Australia's Got Talent in 2010.
In Sydney, Sacha was Assistant Musical Director for Australia's premiere A Cappella choir 'Cafe of the Gate of Salvation'. She worked as Choral Director and Singing Teacher at several high schools and many of her students have gone on to work professionally in the industry. She has taught singing/choral and musical theatre workshops at high schools, universities and performing arts institutes in New Zealand, Sydney and Abu Dhabi.
Sacha has just returned from an 8 year stint in Abu Dhabi UAE, where she founded and directed the award winning women's choir 'Sand of Music', sang with the vintage swing trio 'The Desert Roses' and also sang as part of the choir for Andrea Bocelli's concerts in Al Ula Saudi Arabia on two occasions. While in Abu Dhabi, Sacha was on the panel of judges for the UAE Singing Competition 2015/16, taught Voice at The British School Al Khubairat and worked as a consultant for the Nasheed Al Wasl Opera programme for Expo 2020. She also became the Performing Arts Teacher at a school for children and young people with disabilities 'The Future Rehabilitation Centre'.
Sacha is a huge believer in the healing power of music and feels that nothing ever quite tops singing together! She can't wait to work with the wonderful women in the Newcastle Hummingsong choir. It's time to spread some joy!!
