DOROTHY HORN
Assistant Musical Director
Dorothy Horn originates from Cape Town and has been immersed in music from a young age, playing both piano and recorder, and singing in her school choir. She obtained a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Computer Science and spent a few years working as a computer programmer before feeling compelled to return to her first love - music! She returned to the University of Cape Town to complete a Bachelor of Music before teaching piano and recorder in schools. Following her families relocation to Sydney, she taught music at a school in Broadway and then opened a home studio, teaching piano in a private capacity.
In 2012, she was excited to be present at the very first rehearsal of Anna's brand new 'Hummingsong' choir! Having always loved choral music, she felt inspired to arrange songs for the choir and these arrangements are now performed regularly by both Hummingsong and other choirs across the globe. Her arrangements have received awards in the 'Sheetmusicplus Choral Music' competitions in recent years.
As Hummingsong's Assistant Musical Director, Dorothy now assists Anna with repertoire selection, score preparations, managing the large catalogue of music and occasional piano accompaniment, as well as helping with the general planning for events and concerts. She continues to arrange songs for the choir, which are inspired by the beautiful community of Hummingsong women, who she feels privileged to sing with.
