Mosman

“I love the songs, the opportunity to sing, the happiness, inspiration and soulfulness it provides! With inspiring and professional leadership, Maribella is enlivening!”

– Jennifer Saville

Welcome to Maribella Women’s A Cappella

Like all Hummingsong choirs, Maribella is a community choir and never forget that the first word – community – is also the most important. They make the best music they can, but always make sure they’re having fun and enjoying one another’s company more than anything else.

While many of their members have dabbled in music all their lives in some capacity, others have embraced singing for the first time in this choir. Reading music is not necessary because music can be learned by ear. The choir is open to all ages and experiences and is non-auditioned.

Maribella Women’s A Cappella are conducted by the Founder and Artistic Director of Hummingsong choirs, Anna Humberstone. They rehearse in Mosman on Thursday evenings and have been together since October of 2012.

Repertoire

Whatever kind of music you like, you’ll probably experience it with this new choir. Drawing from a wide range of styles, across the centuries, from Renaissance to soul and pop hits, through African spirituals to jazz to standards, there will be something for everyone. And there will be regular performances!

Performances

They have a wide variety of performances, from small informal concerts for our families to joint concerts with other women’s choirs and international acts like The Idea of North and James Morrison. There is a performance to work towards at least once a term. You may even find yourself singing in a flashmob!

See Hummingsong Choirs having the time of their lives performing in this flashmob on the 14th December 2014 at Chatswood Chase. For 2013’s christmas flashmob at the QVB click here.

Rehearsals

They rehearse every Thursday evening during school terms at Mosman Baptist Church*,  18 Melrose Street Mosman, from 7:30 to 9:30 including a provided tea break. For all 2017 term dates click here.

*While the choir rehearse in a church, it is not affiliated with any and is essentially secular.

Fees – and what you get!

Because we all have busy lives, you only need to commit to one term at a time, with the set fee of $200 per term (which could range from 9 to 11 rehearsals plus any performances we organise). This fee includes your music, MP3 recordings (download and burn to CD or put on your MP3 player/iPod!), extra rehearsals throughout the term and most importantly tea and biccies in our break.

Fees are always paid in advance and are collected in the last two weeks of each term. Fees can either be paid in cash or eft. Upon registering you will receive password access to the members area where there are further details on how to pay and access Hummingsong resources.

 Testimonial

Now I am busy with kids activities, my choir night is my only hobby, the one thing I do for me. I cant read music and my voice is not fabulous by itself, but in a choir I know I can help create beautiful music and I get a real sense of achievement when we master a challenging piece. It’s a lot of fun even when we don’t get it sounding right (sometimes more fun).

I have always loved watching my daughter’s dance concerts and my son’s football matches games, and now they come to watch me performing too!

Anna’s choir is just the right mix of fun and challenges with a great bunch of women of all ages and professions who all love to sing. I keep bumping into the new friends I have made when I do my grocery shopping.

She pushes us further than we think we can go and keeps us laughing all at the same time…we sing a wide variety of songs from Motown to modern love sings to alleluia choruses. Sometimes I am tired and don’t want to go to choir but when I do I feel so glad I made the effort, even though 2 exhilarating hours later I’m too revved up to go sleep.
