Hummingsong Men’s Choir

TERM 2: Tuesday 1st May – Tuesday 3rd July, 7:30 – 9:30pm

Newcomers welcome any time!

Welcome to Hummingsong Men’s A Cappella Choir

Like all Hummingsong choirs, this new Men’s choir is a community choir and never forget that the first word – community – is also the most important. Our focus is on making the best music we can, but always to make sure we are having fun and enjoying one another’s company more than anything else.

While many of Hummingsong members have dabbled in music all their lives in some capacity, others have embraced singing for the first time in this choir. Reading music is not necessary because music can be learned by ear. The choir is open to all ages and experiences and is non-auditioned.

The new Hummingsong Men’s A Cappella choir is conducted by Ann Boyle.  Ann is a dynamic and passionate choral conductor, music educator and arranger.  Click here to read more on Ann.

Whatever kind of music you like, you’ll probably experience it with this new choir. Drawing from a wide range of styles, across the centuries, from Renaissance to soul and pop hits, through African spirituals to jazz to standards, there will be something for everyone. And there will be regular performances!

To see a list of repertoire in Hummingsong Library and to listen to a sample of resources that are provided for members to help learn their music from click here.

All Hummingsong choirs have a wide variety of performances, from small informal concerts for our families to joint concerts with other women’s choirs and international acts like The Idea of North, Darren Percival, Moira Smiley (USA) and James Morrison. There is a performance to work towards at least once a term. You may even find yourself singing in a flashmob!

We are thrilled to add a men’s choir to Hummingsong and look forward to all the opportunities of collaboration in the future. Click the video on the right and imagine the sound of adding men in the mix of this! Wonderful things to look forward to.

Paying it forward

A sense of wellbeing, support, nourishment and friendship are felt in abundance by Hummingsong community members when they join together to sing each week.  Many people are not as fortunate in their own lives.  It is a core aim of Hummingsong to use the power of its community to empower others.

Since 2012, Hummingsong has raised over $100,000 for women and children’s refuges, located on Sydney’s lower north shore and northern beaches.  These refuges provide crisis accommodation, information, support, advocacy and referral for a range of issues facing families who’ve experienced domestic violence. In 2016 we hosted the inaugural event Stand Up, Sing Out Sydney which extended our support for the prevention of domestic violence with all profits raised being donated to White Ribbon.

You never know if you never go… 🙂

Fees – and what you get!

Because we all have busy lives, you only need to commit to one term at a time, with the set fee of $200 per term (which could range from 9 to 11 rehearsals plus any performances we organise). This fee includes your music, MP3 recordings (download and burn to CD or put on your MP3 player/iPod!), extra rehearsals throughout the term and most importantly tea and biccies in our break.

Fees are always paid in advance and are collected in the last two weeks of each term. Fees can either be paid in cash or eft. Upon registering you will receive password access to the members area where there are further details on how to pay and access Hummingsong resources.

‘Singing with others is indescribable – it’s mental and physical and accessible to anyone’

‘Beyond description!  It’s a good laugh, challenging, creative and connects with others’

‘It is about not putting something off – being spontaneous, not competitive but really sharing’

‘When you start you don’t know anyone but everyone is here for the same reason. Before you know it, you’re singing in harmony – and you look at person next to you and you both smile.’
