“Senisuara is what the world should be about. It is a privilege to be part of a group whose only agenda is to explore our musical creativity, in a warm and supportive environment.”

– Suzanna Burdon

Senisuara Women’s A Cappella is a community choir that really understands the power of community! Founded and conducted by Hummingsong Artistic Director Anna Humberstone in 2012, Senisuara choir has gone from strength to strength with a wide variety of performance opportunities and an ever growing network of women that know how to have fun and support each other. They strive to make the best music possible while always keeping community and joy at the heart of everything they do.

With over 70 regular members there is room for everyone to find their voice in Senisuara! This vibrant community of women is home to many experienced singers and music teachers, along side many women of all ages who may not have sung since school days.

The name Senisuara (pronounced Seni-swara) is a concatenation of two Indonesian words, and means “the art of the voice”. Choir members, who also have input in many aspects of choir life, chose the name.

Whatever kind of music you like, you’ll probably experience it with this new choir. Drawing from a wide range of styles, across the centuries, from Renaissance to soul and pop hits, through African spirituals to jazz to standards, there will be something for everyone. And there will be regular performances! To see a list of repertoire in Hummingsong Library and to listen to a sample of resources that are provided for members to help learn their music from click here.

They have a wide variety of performances, from small informal concerts for their families to joint concerts with other women’s choirs and international acts like The Idea of North and James Morrison. There is a performance to work towards at least once a term. You may even find yourself singing in a flashmob!

See Hummingsong Choirs having the time of their lives performing in this flashmob on the 14th December 2014 at Chatswood Chase. For 2013’s christmas flashmob at the QVB click here.

“Singing in the choir provides a wonderful emotional outlet and offers complete break from everyday responsibilities. I have made some wonderful friends I may not otherwise have had the chance to meet. Overall, it has given me a new activity to look forward to every week and has generally made me a happier person.

Our choir leader Anna has infectious energy and enthusiasm and we have fun every week. We have created a friendly, welcoming community of women, which I am proud to be a part of.”
