“Joining Iluka has been a whirlwind of reawakening myself to the joy of singing…”

– Amanda Sully

Welcome to Iluka Women’s A Cappella

Like all Hummingsong choirs, Iluka is a community choir and never forget that the first word – community – is also the most important. They make the best music they can, but always make sure they’re having fun and enjoying one another’s company more than anything else.

Iluka is an aboriginal word for ‘by the sea’. This choir has become home to many talented women in such a short time together. It continues to grow in numbers and in strength.

Since singing their first notes together in term 2 of 2014 Iluka now has over 60 keen members!

Iluka Women’s A Cappella are conducted by the highly experienced and inspiring Natasha Cupitt.  (Click here to read Tash’s bio)

While many of their members have dabbled in music all their lives in some capacity, others have embraced singing for the first time in Iluka. Reading music is not necessary because music can be learned by ear. The choir is open to all ages and experiences and is non-auditioned.

If safety in numbers is your approach to singing in a choir then you’ll be right at home here. With every growing numbers in this choir, (currently over 60 members) there is bound to be many other people on the same part as you giving you a chance to find your voice.

BUT if on the other hand you are a confident singer and eager to sing your lungs out, there is also the opportunity for you to experience singing a solo with the choir backing you!

Iluka rehearse every Tuesday evening during school terms at St Kieran’s Church hall*, 2 King Street, Manly Vale from 7:30 to 9:30 including a provided tea break.  For all 2018 term dates click here.

*While the choir will from time to time sing religious repertoire, it is not affiliated with any, and is essentially secular.

Whatever kind of music you like, you’ll probably experience it with Iluka. Drawing from a wide range of styles, across the centuries, from Renaissance to soul and pop hits, through African spirituals to jazz to standards, there will be something for everyone.

Iluka have a wide variety of performances, from small informal concerts for our families to joint concerts with other women’s choirs and international acts like The Idea of North and James Morrison. There is a performance to work towards at least once a term. You may even find yourself singing in a flashmob!

See Iluka with Hummingsong Choirs having the time of their lives performing in this flashmob on the 14th December 2014 at Chatswood Chase. For 2013’s christmas flashmob at the QVB click here.

Because we all have busy lives, you only need to commit to one term at a time, with the set fee of $200 per term (which could range from 9 to 11 rehearsals plus any performances we organise). There is also a one-off joining fee of $20.00

The fee includes all your music, MP3 recordings (download and burn to CD or put on your MP3 player/iPod!), extra rehearsals throughout the term and most importantly, tea and biccies in our break.

Fees are always paid in advance and are collected in the last two weeks of each term. Fees are paid via EFT. Once you have paid for your first term you will receive a password to access the members area where there are further details on how to access Hummingsong resources.
