Hummingsong choirs continues to grow with people from all over Sydney and other states of Australia requesting a Hummingsong choir to be set up in their area. Running a Hummingsong Choir can be extremely rewarding both professionally and personally with opportunities for growth in both areas. Conductors’ feedback is that not only is choir the high point of the week for choir members but also for the conductors!

Setting up a new choir is relatively simple now with all resources pre prepared for the conductor. All that is required is the right kind of dynamic and passionate conductor who values the power of community as much as the power of good quality music making. Artistic Directors role

  1. Provide public liability insurance
  2. Find a venue and pay hall hire costs
  3. Do marketing for the choir and find members
  4. Provide all of the repertoire in PDF format and MP3 files
  5. Help organise concerts and provide opportunities for the choir to be involved in Workshops / combined concerts and other events.
  6. Provide support and advice whenever required with managing the choir
  7. Do most of the administration
  8. Provide the choir with access to website / set up social media opportunities for choir

 

The Conductor’s role

  1. To create a weekly rehearsal which enriches the lives of others
  2. To create a harmonious group in every sense of the word, musically, socially, with a common purpose
  3. Arrive about 7:15pm and set the hall up. Rehearse from 7:30pm – 9:30pm with a tea break at about 8:50pm for ten mins.
  4. Create opportunities for the choir to socialise ie. A drink at the pub after choir?
  5. Keep an accurate role of attendance

Are you a composer or arranger?

Would you like the opportunity to write for our women’s choirs? If so contact anna@hummingsong.com.au with samples of your work for consideration. Hummingsong is committed to encourage and support local female composers in what is a very male dominated field. It’s important to mention that we don’t close the door to male arrangers and composer though 🙂 

Do you run singing workshops?

Hummingsong choirs regularly host workshops with outside professionals providing our members with a wide variety of expertise and experiences. Previous workshop hosts include: Naomi Crellin (from The Idea of North), Brian Martin (from Brian Martin Music). If you would like to propose Hummingsong host YOU to run a workshop please contact anna@hummingsong.com.au with your proposal.
